World Oral Health Day 2021
Hello everyone! Greetings from Malaysian Dental Association.
The COVID-19 pandemic may have stopped us from having large scale nationwide physical celebration of World Oral Health Day. We faced this challenge last year and it is still a challenge for all of us this year. Nevertheless, the message of good oral health and public awareness, must still be made available all the time. Access to oral health care must go on. Yes…..the time has come again to remind and to acknowledge the importance of oral health. The 20th of March is designated as the day to come together in one voice across the globe to continuously raise oral health awareness to all. It is aimed to empower all individuals with knowledge, tools and confidence to secure good oral health. It is an initiative of FDI World Dental Federation; an organization that brings together the world of dentistry with the aim of achieving optimal oral health for everyone.
The theme for this year’s World Oral Health Day is ”Be Proud of Your Mouth”. This simple but powerful message is aimed to encourage all individuals to focus on the importance of oral health for overall health, BECAUSE GOOD ORAL HEALTH CAN HELP YOU LIVE A LONGER, HEALTHIER LIFE. It is estimated that oral diseases affect nearly 3.5 billion people, which makes it the most common health condition globally. We can’t do it alone. We need everyone to play their role, from policy makers, dental practitioners, communities, and even from every household.
I will also like to take this moment to thank our global supporter, 3M, for coming together actively to help MDA in sharing this common goal. Likewise, to our supporters from Oral Health Program, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Dental Deans’ Council, Ministry of Education, Dental Services of Malaysian Armed Forces and Malaysian Dental Students Association, I urge all of you to take initiatives to disseminate this important message at your level too. Happy World Oral Health Day to all of you.
